Surprised to see Siskel pan Casino. He has somewhat valid points but the very issue he has with the DeNiro/Stone relationship is the very basis for a fantastic film. Those two are on FIRE.
Although I do like the movie, it sucks when compared to Taxi Driver and Goodfellas. Siskel was wrong to give this a thumbs down but he was right in his assessment- it IS a very uneven piece of work and although it is good in its own right, we’ve seen it all before.
True, maybe Pesci was the biggest prick with little man syndrome in movie history but it still kind of bothered me when him and his little brother got bludgeoned and buried while they were still breathing.
Brilliant, and has gotten better with age. Sprawling is a word I would use to describe it.
OH – come – on! It’s a three hour movie, it’s gonna be a little uneven. I think Ebert got Siskel when he asked him to forget Scorsese directed the picture, and that he was covering up the fact that in its own right, Casino is a very satisfying movie – or at least satisfying enough for a recommendation.

this movie is great
i stood up and clapped when joe pesci was finally beaten to death, definitely the biggest prick with small man syndrome in movie history.
robert de niro’s character was a dumbass for marrying someone who plainly said she’d never love him anyway. ginger was a badass!
This movie wasn’t as good as goodfellas, but that doesn’t make it bad. It was just kind of a trashier picture, but was very interesting for most of the movie and i was good with watching it, and i almost stood up and clapped in the theater when ginger finally croaked, possibly the biggest bitch in film history.

Tell me about it, the scene where joe pesci gets battered disturbs me no end, it’s made more disturbing by the fact it actualy happend that way!
Siskel really didn’t understand this movie. The love interest between Ace and Ginger was a major strongpoint as Ace was a guy that never bet on longshots and ‘betting on Ginger’ who was a ‘longshot’ was his downfall. Plus, with Ginger having an affair with Nicky, that presented the dynamic of how Ace didn’t even want to know because it could get him killed.
Siskel hated it because Scorsese used the phrase ” Jew Fuck ” throughout the movie, I would bet my left nut if he didnt use that rude term Siskel wouldve liked it.
i bet siskel couldnt direct a better movie
who cares if the characters are simular to goodfellas? the story is completely different. casino is a great movie.
